Common Causes of Headache and Natural Relief | Simple Home Remedies

If you are suffering from a headache. Here are some tips on what you can do for some quick headache relief. First of all, tension or stress headaches: what are they? Well, they’re probably the most common type of headache. It usually feels like a band around your head which is causing that pain, and it usually is relieved when those stressful conditions are relieved or the concentration levels are reduced that are causing it as well.

First of all let’s try to understand the types of headache-

1.Primary Headache

2.Secondary Headache

Primary headaches can be caused by overactivity. These headaches can be- Migraines, Tension-type Headache, Cluster Headache. Every headache has its own characteristic pain and has its own unique cause.

Secondary types of headache are those headaches that are usually caused due to Injury, Trauma, Infections, Inflammation, Overuse of Medicines, due to sudden hormonal changes.

There is another category of Headache which is primarily caused by lifestyle disorders or de-arrangements or most probably due to stressful environmental conditions. Some examples of such type of headache like- headache caused due to dehydration, due to improper dietary factors, due to irregular sleep, due to bright lights, due to loud noise, strong smells, due to prolonged and constant screen time, due to overstrain on eye, due to overheat while moving in hot summer days in bright sunlight.

Let’s discuss its causes and prevention. It’s much better to prevent getting a tension headache than getting it in the first place.

First- Are you hydrated? Are you drinking enough water? Are you drinking enough fluids basically? Remember, all fluids count to hydration. This includes tea, coffee, fizzy drinks, orange juice, water, soup. Food has it in it as well, by the way. So make sure that you are staying hydrated. The reason is if you’re dehydrated, your brain shrinks, and it shrinks and it pulls away from the skull. When it pulls away from the skull, it can cause these tension headache type symptoms.

Now let’s move on to tip number two is making sure you’re not getting eye strain. If you have to wear glasses, wear your glasses. If you’re constantly straining to do tasks, to read things, to read the monitor, all of this can potentially be causing the headache in the first place. Also, make sure you’re taking breaks from work, if you’re constantly sitting in front of your computer.

Moving on to tip number three. Make sure you are taking a proper healthy diet on time. Make sure you’re not starving yourself for a long time and your blood glucose levels aren’t dipping down to those bottom levels. because if it is, that can actually bring on headaches as well. And especially when you’re working and you’re doing things and you forget about if you’re eating or you keep pushing on further and further before you eat. So make sure you have set times to eat so these blood sugar levels, these blood glucose levels, aren’t dropping down too low because that might be causing it in the first place.

Moving on to tip number four is all about relaxation. One must make sure you are not stressing too much because if you’re doing it too much, you’re going to be releasing loads of adrenaline and it’s going to make you tense, going to tense those muscles and tense the muscles around the face and it’s going to potentially cause that tension headache.

And tip number five. Make sure you are getting enough sleep. I know it sounds basic, but if you are not getting enough sleep, your body doesn’t have enough time to refresh the brain basically. When we sleep, our brain actually gets cleaned and refreshed during that time. That’s the best way to look at it.  One needs to sleep for at least 6-8 hours. Make sure that you’re sleeping at the right time, it’s making sure that you’re doing the right things so it’s high quality sleep and your body will thank you for that. Lack of sleep has been shown to increase headaches, migraines, tension headaches. So make sure you’re getting sleep.

Here are few tips how we can get relief from these headache naturally-

First tip is very basic, if you do have a tension type headache, you can give yourself a self-massage. Massage gently behind the neck with oil, and try to lie down with a relaxed and calm mind.

The second tip is very easy. Go to your freezer, get a pack of frozen ice cubes or whatever you have, or if you have an ice pack, even better. Wrap it in a tea towel, okay, and place it on the area, place it on the forehead and around the side of the head. This is just going to give us that relief, it’s going to help relax those muscles that are so tense that are causing that tension headache. This not only provides relief from the headache but also keeps our mind calm and stress free.

Tip number three is relaxation. If you’ve had a busy, stressful day and you’ve got that tension headache going on, the first thing you need to do, switch off those lights, close your laptop, turn your TV off, turn your phone off, everything, turn it all off and now close your eyes and relax. This can really help you to relax things. If you want, take a little nap, take a 10-20 minute nap, a little power nap, this can really help cause that relaxation and help with the tension headache.

Tip four is all about medication. When you feel like you’ve got a headache coming on, when you feel like you’ve got a migraine, tension headache, anything, do meditation early. Don’t wait until your symptoms are really bad, take it as soon as possible so it gets in your system and gives you that relief. These above are few treatment options for the tension headache.

One must try to achieve a stress free lifestyle, with proper hydration and dietary management, so that we may stay away from all sorts of tensions and always be free minded.
